On Saturday 19th February 2022, St John Bosco FC and Swords Celtic Football for All teams

On Saturday 19th February 2022, St John Bosco FC and Swords Celtic Football for All teams played their first ever football match courtesy of Knocklyon Utd. The fabulous Brickfields All Weather Community pitch was the venue for a thrilling afternoon's action, with Knocklyon's u9s taking on Swords Celtic, and the 10-14s group facing St John Bosco.

There was nothing but positivity and praise from the huge crowd of spectators, and the children on the pitch showed passion, skill and immense sportsmanship.

The players walked out together to the Champions League music before shaking hands and settling in to the match.

The flexibility within the rules allowed all abilities to be actively involved, and the referee/ facilitators on both pitches were fantastic. There were thrilling passages of play, some resulting in great tackles or saves, others involving fantastic goals.

On such an emotional day for the players, it was fantastic to hear the encouragement from all supporters to every player on the field.

This friendly initiative is the brainchild of Mick Kennedy, who has done remarkable work in organising these matches. His experienced coaches include Peter Fullerton and Gerry Reardon. Also there to support and promote the Football for All was the FAI's Christy McElligot who is spreading awareness of the inclusive program across the country. We could not ask for better ambassadors for it.

In the end, every player was thrilled with their experience and are looking forward to their next involvement in the DDSL mini blitz friendlies series.

A special thanks to the coaches and volunteers who work tirelessly with the players week in week out to prepare them for such memorable occasions. Well done to all the players of Knocklyon Utd, Swords Celtic and St John Bosco.
